Members of the National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) today took to the streets to protest against what they called a neglection of employees’ needs by the Social Development Department.
The demonstration took place outside the Gauteng Premiers’ office in Johannesburg CBD. Clad in the union’s red t-shirts, the demonstrators sang songs denouncing the department’s leaders and Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini.
NEHAWU’s Max Mosongwe, said their demands have been neglected since 2015 and they are disappointed by the mis-information the department spews to the media.
“We are here to counter their statements. They are trying to block our struggle. As workers we are very disappointed. The incident that happened at the Walter Sisulu Child and Care Centre is very unfortunate. It is caused by that the management do not want to listen. They are not willing to negotiate so it is clear that they are arrogant. The Minister and them are not addressing issues but looking for negative occurrences,” Mosongwe said.
